Not only in psychology,
also in many topics, talking about diversity, can mean show respect for the
other. Respect in all the ways, no matter the culture, the ethnicity, or the
beliefs (religion). We can include everyone with no excuses.
Inclusion means that
every people must have the same opportunities of ways of living into the
society, like having the opportunity to study. But, some minorities don’t have
this opportunities. Many places that are far from the biggest places, don’t
have the access of hospitals or social services.
It is pertinent to analyze what social groups are those who have more difficulty being heard.
The National Institute of Health Research proposes nine different groups that are:
-
Race
-
Sex
-
Sexual orientation
-
Disability
-
Religion or belief
-
Transsexual person
-
Being pregnant
-
Being married or in a civil partnership
-
Age
Each group has an
individual problem. For years and also centuries the race has been a big
problem. For example the black race in the past have never been include in
social relationships.
The sexual orientation
was considered as a Taboo, now many countries agree with the gender or changes
of gender as transsexuals, but other countries don’t.
Depending the
continent, a lot of countries don’t accept the think of people with different
religions, and that means social exclusion.
Exists a lot of
barriers, another example is the communication. People with disabilities, like
blind people, they need spaces of Braille to understand where are they located.
To overcome the
barriers it’s precisely to do specifics things in each ambit. Not all the
spaces can be developed with the same strategies. For example one important thing
to start making inclusion for diversity is on schools. Accept in a classroom
every type of race, no matter the skin color or social category. With this
strategy, in children, we are creating roots of inclusion for the future.
